Farm Bureau Bank News NEW C NOTE UNVEILED

June 04, 2010

Ben Franklin gets a facelift

In its continuing efforts to protect consumers and foil counterfeiters, the U.S. Treasury recently unveiled the redesigned $100 bill. The announcement was made in April, giving the government plenty of time to educate the public before February 10, 2011, the date the new currency is expected to circulate.

Seven years ago the Bureau of Engraving and Printing initialized high-tech redesigns for first the $20 and then the $50, $10 and $5 bills. The most counterfeited worldwide, the C-note is the highest value denomination in general circulation and the last paper currency to receive this type of futuristic makeover.

Security features

This sophisticated redesign not only hinders savvy forgers but also makes it easy for consumers to determine the bill is real. Several highly visible security features were added to make the changes obvious yet difficult to duplicate. Alongside Franklin’s portrait you’ll see:

  • 3-D security ribbon
  • Color-shifting bell in the inkwell
  • Portrait watermark
  • Security thread
  • Color-shifting "100"

At Farm Bureau Bank, we encourage all members to become familiar with the special features of the new $100 note. For a more detailed description of the new currency, or for free educational material, visit www.newmoney.gov.
